I’m looking forward to hosting the Public Sector Show next week in the very appropriate venue of the old London County Hall.

We’re in an extended state of crisis in #localgov and the #publicsector more generally in the UK.

14 years of #austerity has pushed us hard, and combined with “Brexit”, the #ClimateEmergency, the #CostOfLivingCrisis , the after-effects (and ongoing effects) of #Covid and the perpetually slow-dawning realisation that the issues raised by #BlackLivesMatter and others desperately need to be addressed that means… I’m going to us the word… we’re in a #PolyCrisis

Yet people still turn up for work! They still do their best to deal with increasing challenges with decreasing funds! They dig deep and work out how to meet statutory requirements and innovate, they develop their abilities, they come together to learn! They still plan for a better future.

I have run two #stateoftransformation conferences — back in 2018 and 2019 we talked about the state of emergency, forming a Rebel Alliance to transform public services from the inside, the centrality of the real experience of citizens, the need for a soft heart and a strong spine to be a true public sector radical, and how we might — eventually — emerge from the ongoing crisis together.

I know how much work goes into these things — and this one is sold out, has absolutely top quality speakers, and touches on so many of the key points — well done Public Sector Show!

What questions would you like me to ask of the speakers at the show?
