There may indeed not be a choice, it's true.

At the extreme, this indicates the need for 'systems change' practitioners to actually practice self-care and detachment; you aren't actually any use to the system if you've internalised its problems and the load makes you worn down, incapable of acting etc. (There may, perhaps, be a way *through* this - I don't know).

At the other axis, perhaps you can be of greater service by *not* taking on other people's problems?

I don't think there's a neat answer to this - I think it's just part of the picture and part of what we need to work with...
