What have you read, from me, that resonated?

As usual, I got up early this morning, made a coffee, and sat down to do my Wednesday LinkedIn post. It’s been a ritual for quite a while — since early in lockdown, and something over 300 posts.

At times, I’ve felt like a genius — wow! it’s all coming together! I can see and share. I’m a conduit for insight!

Often, proud but frustrated — ‘hmm, that’s pretty good, but it could be much better’

At other times, I’ve felt like Bertrand Russell writing his ‘penny dreadfuls’ — trying to make complex things readable, rather resenting the process.

And sometimes, I’ve felt like a cheap columnist, phoning something in with the tagline ‘will this do?’

One thing which has been genuinely humbling, though, is that how I feel about what I’ve written makes no difference whatsoever to its popularity — little passing comments have taken off, pieces I’ve resentfully ground out have been wildly popular, and of course my favourite polished jewels have fallen, trampled into the mud underfoot.

LinkedIn keeps changing, the world keeps changing, and since I’ve been writing these, my business has been down then up, quite a lot has gone on in and affecting UK public services, where I mostly work, and the broader fields of operational excellence, business, consulting / change and systems | complexity | cybernetics. I’ve had many successes, and failed to finish my book or the 45 podcast interviews I recorded with excellent people. Maybe it’s time to change something.

Occasionally, when I’ve been in need of a bit of a boost, or reflective, like now, I have done a post like this! And responses have been helpful, though usually not directly, but inspiring thought.

So — if you have groaned at my penny dreadfuls, been inspired by my insights (or — more likely — vice versa), I would welcome your input now!
